Emergency services such as an ambulance service is strictly for rescuing people that have been in accidents, etc. Depending on the situation and location will determine what type of ambulance service is needed. When there is an emergency situation, a regular ambulance is not always equipped to safely rescue the person that is in need. Depending on the situation, an ambulance may not be able to reach the scene due to the location of the accident; at this time an air ambulance is the most necessary. For example, in an extreme situation such as, if someone was climbing in the mountains and they fell and broke their leg, an air ambulance is the one that is needed. An air ambulance is also used when the accident that occurs is a very bad one and the patient is in critical condition. If a car accident is so bad that the passengers inside the car are in critical condition, a traditional ambulance is not needed, rather, they are usually air lifted in an air ambulance and taken to a hospital nearby. Local air ambulance services are very crucial in our society for extreme critical situations that are in need of quick transportation, and in situations such as rock climbing, snowboarding, etc, where an ordinary ambulance is unable to travel.

The hospitals will have a landing area on one of the rooftops that usually have the letter H with a circle around it, which is where the helicopter will land to take the patients out and into the hospital for treatment. This type of transportation is the quickest in severe emergency situations. If you happen to see a bad accident on the highway and you notice a helicopter arriving at the scene then you know that it was a very bad accident because this type of transportation in regular vehicle collisions are only used when the accident is very severe and the people involved are in critical condition. Emergency services does not always mean strictly an ambulance service, it can also be a fire truck or police vehicle that is responding to an emergency call. When most people hear the term emergency services they automatically picture an ambulance but it is not always just an ambulance that arrives at the scene, usually it is a fire truck and police that arrive as well. However, an ambulance or air ambulances are the only emergency services that are used as transportation services in an emergency situation. A fire truck will come to put out a fire and police cars will come, etc, but usually they will not be used as transportation services. The ambulance or air ambulance is most commonly the ones that are used as means of transportation services.
